This fuchsia poppy-like flower, sways and jitters on slender wiry stems and peeps around my garden and up towards my window. I love those bright magenta flowers with that blue-gray foliage. This succulent with its very un-succulent like flowers is called Calandrinia spectabilis. Say KAL-an-DREEN-ee-uh.
Occasionally, I will come across some Matilija poppies and when I do they grab my attention. They are so fragile with their very delicate crape-like petals. I created this one to not look so fragile, but to be bold, strong and vibrant.
My favorite mysterious bird. I actually have them in many of my paintings. They are unpredictable in their movements as they hover, fly backwards and dart every which way. Watching them out my dining room window, I took a photo of this little guy and painted him.
